The Rise of Online Classes

The above articles outline a shift in how coaches are approaching their classes. Historically, like instructors in most industries, fitness coaches taught in person. However, due to increasing demand for accessibility, technology paved the way for online learning.

Additional perks of online classes are affordability (since instructors can scale their classes and don't need as much space), applicability (since students can be more selective in what they learn), and accountability (for those who need regular check-ins rather than more content).

The covid pandemic accelerated the rise of online fitness classes and the circus industry followed suit. Prior to covid, I never would have considered teaching aerial silk online, but after taking an online lesson myself, I was persuaded not only that it was possible, but that it could be done safely.

I would argue though, specifically regarding aerial circus, it is highly preferable to teach beginners in person. Then, once a solid foundation of safety and technique is established, the student is ready to continue into online learning.
